Information : Chemical and Environmental Laboratories
The Chemical Laboratory coordinates and administers the Anniston Army Depot’s (ANAD’s) oil analysis program. ANAD participates in the Joint Oil Analysis Program analyzing over 6,000 oil samples annually for spectrographic properties, physical properties, and particle count. Results are used to determine causes for equipment failure and to reduce production of waste oil by tying oil changes to oil chemistry rather than time and operating hour criteria. The Chemical Laboratory provides analytical services for chemical cleaning and electroplating, by providing over 2,000 chemical cleaning and electroplating vat analyses annually. As a result, the plating bath makeup is closely regulated, saving on materials and helping ensure a quality product with fewer rejects and rework. Finally, the Laboratory provides consultant services for physical, chemical, and functional testing of materials.
The Environmental Laboratory provides sampling and analytical support for the Industrial Waste Treatment Plant, the Sewage Treatment Plant and Storm Water Discharges to meet National Pollutants Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit criteria. More than 2,200 NPDES Elimination System-related samples are analyzed annually. The Environmental Laboratory also provides groundwater monitoring and environmental analytical support for tenant activities. The Laboratories are well equipped with the latest analytical equipment, and technicians are fully certified to perform their functions.
