Best Practice : Strategic Planning
Forest City Gear has established strategically envisioned goals five to ten years into the future. Equipment and personnel investments concentrate on the company’s future success and strengthening relationships with suppliers and customers. These strategic investments have fostered an improvement in company productivity, increased business opportunities, and enhanced a higher level of product quality.
Forest City Gear (FCG) previously implemented short-term outlook strategies for the company’s visions and goals. Expending a lot of energy in the requirements of short-term needs left little time to envision the company’s necessities years into the future, often leaving an uncertain feeling regarding the organization’s placement in the gear manufacturing industry. Founded on the principles of high quality and extreme customer focus, FCG recognized the problems experienced by emphasizing short-term benefits.
To address these issues, FCG understood the need to modify the way it strategically addressed the needs required for future success. By examining the cause of historical struggles and studying the methods used throughout other manufacturing environments, FCG established Strategic Planning years into the company’s future. This type of Strategic Planning, prominent in the European manufacturing community, builds on the early years of quality excellence. By investing resources into the company’s personnel through training and benefits, the workforce maintains ownership of the overall process and understands the importance. FCG continues to enhance its state-of- the-art equipment inventory, which improves the efficiency and quality of work products. The company also emphasizes improving its rapport with suppliers and customers, and often sells equipment and training to competitors in hopes of building the gear industry and improving its overall visibility. FCG envisions this visibility to be instrumental in its future success the more it shares and gives, the more knowledge and business it receives.
FCG’s expertise and experience continue to grow company-wide. Each new technology and strategy has facilitated additional opportunities instrumental to the company’s continued success.
