Information : Employee Training
Forest City Gear’s Employee Training Program established formal policies and procedures that provide its employees skills for improved performance and increased organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
An integral part of Forest City Gear’s (FCG’s) mission is maintaining a knowledgeable, skillful, and successful workforce. To accomplish this, the company had to provide training to maximize current and future job performance, provide skills for improved performance, and increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Past practices for acquiring training were administered on an ad-hoc basis. The policy of allowing and fostering employees to attend training is completely endorsed by the company. There are no established budgets for training, but approval for job related or career enhancing studies is automatic. The only requirement of the student is a C grade or better for reimbursement. Types of training include formal off-site training at accredited schools and trade schools (the courses are mainly directed toward gear specific training), vendor training at the equipment manufacturer’s facility, formal degree programs (tuition reimbursement), and on-site training and cross training.
Each employee averages approximately 15 to 20 hours of formal training per year, with an additional average of approximately 15 to 20 hours of internal and cross training conducted by FCG personnel. The training records are maintained on-site and collected and stored by functional area (certified to operate equipment) and by individual employee (Employee Training Record).
The Human Resources department established a database to assist budgeting and coordination responsibilities and retrieve traceability data. Plans are underway to integrate individual career paths with the training calendar. The implementation of these well defined policies and procedures has brought the administration of training activities under control and kept the workforce current, knowledgeable, skillful, and successful.
