Information : Reliability Improvement Warranty Program
The Reliability Improvement Warranty Program is an effective product management strategy for both government and contractor. The objectives of the program are to increase the reliability, maintainability and overall product quality by contractually extending the warranty period to five years. This time extension enables the contractor to develop dynamic closed-loop corrective processes and effect long-range improvements through this extension by controlling the configuration during early operational development. In addition, it allows the customer to defer cost expenditures associated with the establishment of a repair depot until system maturation.
This program enables the contractor to control the product development and maturation more effectively and makes him responsible for demonstrating the reliability and maintainability expected of the product. The contractor also gains a knowledge of the product's field performance, resulting in continuous improvement throughout the life cycle. In some cases, the mean time between failures improved by a factor of ten as a direct result of the program. This knowledge is also valuable in the development of future generations of similar equipment.
