Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP), Jacksonville has established a high-level Environmental Program Office (EPO) to coordinate environmental projects, ensure compliance, and communicate with regulators and other government agencies. An Environmental Management Board (EMB) has also been established to address high-priority environmental issues and establish environmental policy and plans. The Environmental Matrix organization, consisting of several departments at NADEP, Jacksonville, are responsible for carrying out the functional activities directed by the EPO and EMB. This organization ensures that environmental issues are addressed at the command level and are given the appropriate priority.
The EPO at NADEP, Jacksonville was elevated to the Commanding Officer/Executive Officer staff level to provide the authority to ensure that compliance requirements can be imposed on the line organization. The EPO identifies compliance requirements in a proactive manner and communicates them to executive management through the EMB. The EMB establishes policy and priorities for environmental programs based on these requirements. The priorities are translated into projects which are carried out by the environmental matrix organization. The efforts of the environmental staff and matrix organization are centered on ensuring continued operational readiness of NADEP, Jacksonville through environmental compliance.
The Environmental Organization at NADEP, Jacksonville, including the EPO, EMB and environmental matrix organization, has been established with appropriate authority and is operated in a proactive manner to ensure compliance. Significant cost and operational benefits have been realized through the programs developed through this organization.
