The Technical Library Branch at Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP), Jacksonville provides and maintains control of all engineering drawings, classified material, technical data releases, and publications for the Center.
There are five separate areas in which the Technical Library Branch plays a major role in NADEP, Jacksonville’s mission. These include:
Master Engineering Drawings. The library provides and maintains approximately 5.5 million master engineering drawings on microfilm. Current efforts are focused on building a digitized engineering drawing index.
Command Classified Material. The library controls all classified material in various media from receipt to destruction. The process has been streamlined using a computerized tracking system.
Technical Data Release System. The library controls releases of technical directives in the form of Local Engineering Specifications, Local Process Specifications, and Airframe/Engine/Component Bulletins and Changes. Changes in the method of routing technical directives for sign off, from mailing to hand-carry, have reduced the number of directives in process from 700 to 60.
Technical Publications. The library maintains requisitions, receives and distributes all incoming publications necessary to complete the assigned functions of NADEP, Jacksonville. A new method has been implemented that replaces the paper ordering method with a PC-modem for ordering manuals and publications that has resulted in a reduction in delivery time from 45 days to 10 days.
Satellite Library program. Eleven Satellite Libraries have been established throughout NADEP, Jacksonville to directly support the production areas. These libraries are physically located at strategic locations in the areas they support. Each site specializes in maintaining the technical material required for the production area, resulting in easy access and time saved in obtaining the necessary materials.
The Technical Library provides a major support to the NADEP, Jacksonville and demonstrates several industry-wide practices. In addition, the library is constantly looking for process and business improvements and is near completion on several of these efforts.
