The plant services/maintenance group at Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP), Jacksonville is tasked to maintain all general use production equipment at the Center, as well as maintaining the special use or project specific equipment. Prior to a recent change in their operating policies, new equipment would be purchased for a given project, utilities installed and the equipment put into immediate use. There was no consideration for routine and preventive maintenance of the equipment.
Recognizing the shortcomings of the past practice and correcting the process, the Plant Services Division formed a group, made up of artisans and engineering technicians, to examine every piece of equipment that appeared to require some form of preventive maintenance. The missing PM plans were written and/or revised and also included material/parts requirements. They also developed a process so that no new equipment would be brought on line until a maintenance plan was developed and approved.
