Recognizing the need to curtail the cost proliferation of software purchases, Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP), Jacksonville began installing a LAN at its facility almost four years ago. This LAN has not only eased costs by reducing duplicate software purchases but has also greatly increased the computing capabilities of the Center.
The LAN presently services not only NADEP, Jacksonville, but also the seven remote sites such as Naval Air Systems Command headquarters in Washington, DC.
Through excellent planning, the NADEP, Jacksonville personnel have maintained low installation costs. Once the LAN backbone was installed in a building, the cost of hooking up the individual PCs was less than $400 per unit.
