Information : Asset and Material Management for Depot Repair
Northrop Grumman Electronic System’s Depot Repair Group established a dedicated work cell that operates as a separate business within the business. By using synergies within the company through people and software tracking systems, turnaround times on planned and unplanned repairs have been successfully met.
With the Department of Defense (DoD) moving toward firm fixed-pricing during the past few years, Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems (NGES) needed to further assess the entire cost for the repair of returned products. The need for availability of inventory, test equipment time, accountability, control, and visibility of assets all required focus.
NGES’ Depot Repair Group established a dedicated work cell that operates as a separate business within the business. By establishing a flexible business system that interfaces with all manufacturing groups within the facility, turnaround times on planned and unplanned repairs have been successfully met.
Material inventory, tooling, test fixtures, test equipment, technician certification, sub-assembly availability from suppliers, and asset tracking were all barriers to accomplishing this task. By educating all involved employees on the requirements and the monthly reviews of the status of current needs, customer product repair exceeds the required turnaround time for quality products returned to the customers.
