Information : Engineering Data Management Information and Control System
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Keyport Technical Documentation Center maintains over a million active engineering drawings including manual storage, retrieval, distribution, and control of aperture card based image and logistics data. Advances in computer processing and storage technology have allowed Keyport to scan and store 585,000 drawings on the Keyport Engineering Data Management Information and Control System (EDMICS) to date. These images can be retrieved, viewed, and printed on demand using dedicated client software or a web based interface.
As originally designed, the system stored only untitled raster files. Modifications to the Oracle relational database have allowed for storage and retrieval of any file format. Keyport can store up to 100 GB of information using Microsoft Windows 2000 servers.
Sharing and exchange of technical information between Keyport and Joint EDMICS sites has been accomplished by utilizing the Navy Engineering Drawing Asset Locator System to locate engineering drawings.
