Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems uses oneRTN, the Raytheon enterprise portal, to access key metrics from complex financial and management systems. The Integrated Defense System Business Area Portal provides leaders with improved access to relevant information, enabling the presentation of information in a consistent and accurate manner.
Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems’ (IDS’) leaders needed real-time access to complex financial and management systems to gain timely and accurate real-time program metrics. Gathering this information manually from as many as 15 business elements for presentation to key managers was time-consuming and required the involvement of many employees, which often resulted in the collection of inaccurate and outdated data. Communicating program status required an automated process that would accurately reflect this information in a management report, replacing manually created Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint templates.
Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems’ ( IDS’) Portal Team developed oneRTN, a Raytheon (RTN) enterprise portal that provides timely, accurate and real-time access to key program metrics from financial and management systems. The success of this innovative state-of-the-art portal was accomplished by:
Bringing together a matrixed team of subject matter experts (SMEs) from business to identify requirements and drive project priorities
Identifying a narrow project focus that does not spread the team too thin
Leveraging spiral development to provide incremental value on an expedited schedule
Leveraging back-end, primary systems as the data source
Raytheon IDS estimates the implementation of oneRTN has resulted in cost savings totaling more than $900,000 by:
Providing access to relevant information
Presenting information in a consistent manner
Streamlining existing business processes
Improving business processes and tools
The oneRTN Portal streamlines existing business processes and improves business processes and tools. The Raytheon IDS Portal Team plans to continue developing its oneRTN portal to include other program-level portals throughout its business base.
