Information : Business Intelligence/Business Performance Management
(equipment: software)
Raytheon’s Business Intelligence or Business Performance Management system was designed to provide visibility, insight, confidence and predictability for decision-making via the Raytheon portal.
The effort and time required to compile information to support management decision-making was described by Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) as a “burning platform.” Raytheon has embarked on a mission to baseline and improve this process by delivering a performance management system with the capability to accelerate decision-making, improve communication, and maximize business value.
Raytheon established specific goals for the success of its Business Intelligence project that include:
Establishing a performance management system with tools, processes, and roles that will provide an objective framework for measuring, managing, and optimizing IT’s provision of efficiency, effectiveness, capability and capacity (E2C2)
Enabling IT to objectively demonstrate value to its clients
Providing the business with information and metrics on processes, services and performance in order to enable informed decision-making beginning with IT
Driving change and process maturity throughout the organization by defining, measuring, and managing relevant metrics
Establishing a framework for managing strategy and linking it to execution
Establishing an organizational competency in performance management consulting that can be marketed and sold across Raytheon – driving higher levels of performance and predictability across the company
Raytheon’s Business Intelligence/Business Performance Management system will bridge the gap from its current method of data collection to a future state of data collection (Table 3-1) that is predicated on collecting vast amounts of that will be analyzed and presented through the Raytheon portal. Business data sources such as PlanView, PeopleSoft, and APEX can be systematically mined, with their information placed in data marts or data warehouses. The information then passes to the information analysis and distribution phase where metrics are managed and reports are created for presentation via the corporate portal.
Raytheon projects that implementation of the Business Intelligence/Business Performance management system will improve and expedite decision making. The on-hand availability of key information will give management better visibility into performance and better representation of information leading to better decisions.
Raytheon will realize quantitative business benefits, including:
Optimized decisions by minimizing bad data, data that is not provided on time, or data that is not available
Reduced time spent collecting, “massaging,” reporting, and publishing metrics
Reduced time generating reports and presentations – financial reviews, meetings
Reduction in operational costs by quickly identifying process inefficiencies and their root causes so that timely improvement plans can be implemented, eliminating costly defects that grow exponentially over time
The implementation of the Raytheon Business Intelligence/Business Information Management System will provide access to real-time information and to accurate critical data that management needs to make effective business decisions. Business Intelligence enables the RAMP SPEED for Raytheon to maintain its competitive edge in industry.
