Survey Summary
RB Tool & Manufacturing Company was founded in 1957 as the Rack Buchert Manufacturing Co. The main emphasis of this small business was to provide packaging machines and spare parts for these machines to the Procter & Gamble Company. As business expanded and product lines increased, Rack Buchert changed its name to RB Tool & Manufacturing Company. Located in a new 20,000 square foot modern facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, RB Tool continues to build packaging machines for Procter & Gamble; however, the company expanded its business base to design, build, and market specialized packaging machines, spare parts, fixtures and tooling for a wide variety of customers. RB Tool now builds machines, tools, and fixtures for the packaging, food, automotive, consumer products, medical, semi-conductor, material handling, and industrial products industries. The company has grown to over $5M in annual sales and employs more than 30 highly skilled personnel.
RB Tool’s success is based on customer satisfaction. The company boasts on-time delivery of 97.5% with its philosophy, “if we can’t meet your delivery requirement, we won’t take your job.” The success of this philosophy is evidenced by RB Tool’s continued expansion and growing customer base. As a machine builder of specialized equipment, RB Tool works with its customers to understand their needs and the applications of the desired equipment. With this knowledge, RB Tool makes accurate predictions of what, if any, component parts of the equipment will wear and require an inventory of spares. RB Tool then stocks those spare parts and provides 24-hour turnaround time for the spares to the customer. This service greatly minimizes down time of the customer’s equipment and products.
RB Tool & Manufacturing’s philosophy of continuous improvement led to the development and implementation of its Repeat Job Toolbox, Sharing Work, and Spare Part Level of Support, which enable the company to quickly respond to its customers’ needs. The BMP survey team considers the practices in this report to be among the best in industry and government.
