Information : Automated JIT Program
The Just In Time, (JIT) program is an automated element of Texas Instrument/Semiconductor Group/Military Products (TI/SG/MP's) Semiconductor Business Systems (SBS). It is a Semiconductor group-wide lead time reduction program which eliminates customer and TI/SG/MP inventory stocking through the use of an accurate, shared electronic forecast and customer-provided shipment authorization. The program originated from a customer concern identified during a TI/SG/MP survey that customers were concerned about minimizing inventory investment tied to short term usage. They wanted short and consistent lead times, the ability to respond rapidly to changes in demand, 100% on-time delivery, and elimination of waste caused by unnecessary paperwork, multiple vendors, and expediting.
There is no backlog with JIT. Shipments occur on a regular cycle defined by the customer. Shipments for the current week are based on the latest forecast. In JIT, the system electronically generates an order, produces a shipping packet, and ships the order to the customer. The product arrives at the customer's dock, normally within four days from order, and is on the customer's manufacturing line by the next day. The JIT process flow is presented in the attached graphic.
TI/SG/MP's JIT program allows lower shelf inventory on JIT devices and provides for next day shipment and automatic upside capabilities. Automated electronic data interchange (EDI) forecast processing ensures that the product is available. Electronic transmission of forecasts and orders reduces paperwork, and the system eliminates expedites and change orders.
