Texas Instrument/Semiconductor Group/Military Products (TI/SG/MP) extensively employs bar coding throughout its manufacturing, material management and customer service operations. Bar code applications internal to TI/SG/MP include receiving, stocking, picking, packing, quality control, shipping, and product data tracking. TI/SG/MP also provides custom bar code labels to meet the specifications of individual customers when requested.
TI/SG/MP's bar code system is integrated with its worldwide computer system as a subsystem of Semiconductor Planning System (SPS). It provides numerous features including menu access to all bar code functions, central storage of all customer label formats, customized label format fields, on-line topical help menus, and warns users of urgent shipments to reduce the possibility of a missed ship date. The system manages all internal product movement, ensures that the right part and correct quantity is shipped, and provides worldwide traceability.
