Texas Instrument/Semiconductor Group/Military Products (TI/SG/MP) has a global acquisition information system that supports worldwide electronic procurement. The system, which is menu-driven and user friendly, has six available options, from creating orders to requesting reports. Key features of every order include TI/SG/MP part numbers, contract clauses, delivery schedules, and item description.
The system is real-time, worldwide, accessed by anyone, and has a direct link with suppliers through EDI. This capability allows for direct negotiation of price, quantity, and delivery schedule with the supplier. A requisition can be directly transferred into a contract within a specified dollar amount. When a requisition requires higher approval authority, managers can use the electronic requisition approval capability. Managers can approve their own documents; approve other documents when they have temporary authority; and can delegate approval authority for any time frame.
This electronic requisition system has helped TI/SG/MP meet customer demand 99% of the time. Because procurement status is known in real time, any required action is immediately handled.
