B. APPLICABILITY AND SCOPE

       1. This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary ofDefense (OSD), the Military Departments, and the Defense Agencies (hereafter referred to collectively as "DoD Components") for the acquisition of major systems as defined by reference (b).

       2. Production management of system programs not defined and designated as major system acquisitions also shall be guided by the provisions of this Directive.

       3. The principles contained in this Directive apply to all defense materiel programs.
