7.8.7 FMEA Summary
The FMEA does not replace the need for sound engineering
judgment at the design level. This system analysis is, however, practical in
determining many of the significant details which may not otherwise be
determined by separate, individual studies. Like other design tools, the FMEA
has limitations such as those discussed below.
It is not a substitute for good design. If used for its
intended purpose it can be an aid to better design.
||It will not solve item problems which may
exist as a limitation to effective system design. It should define and
focus attention on such problems and indicate the need for a design
It will not, in itself, guarantee a system design. It is
nothing more than a logical way of establishing "bookkeeping" which
can be systematically analyzed for design reliability.
