8.7.2 Accelerated Stress
The main objective of a stress test is to convert latent defects
or design weaknesses into actual failures, that is, to identify design, part
and manufacturing process problems which could cause subsequent failures in
the field. Time compression can frequently be realized by accelerating the
environmental stress applied during the test, just as time compression is
obtained during accelerated life testing. This same approach may be used both
during development tests and during Environmental Stress Screening (ESS).
