9.8 Software Analyses
Two types of analyses will be discussed in this section; the
failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and the fault tree analysis (FTA).
The objective of both analyses is to determine what the system or product
software may do or not do that is not desirable. This is opposite of most
analyses which attempt to show that the product performs the intended
functions. Safety criticality is one area for detailed software analysis.
