1.1 Purpose.

This handbook provides guidance for implementing an effective Parts Management Program (PMP) on Department of Defense (DoD), industry and commercial acquisitions. The guidance in this document supports acquisition strategies and systems engineering practices of DoD 5000.2-R. This document provides performance-based parts management process guidance which is intended to be adapted to individual program needs and which provides appropriate latitude for innovative approaches and design solutions by the contractors.
