This section concerns those aspects of acquisition associated with (1) specifying the low-voltage and high-voltage power supply requirements and (2) managing the program in such a way as to meet the requirements, including reliability within cost and schedule targets. It involves constraints external to design and manufacturing, including:
(1) Development schedule and cost
(2) Output power density
(3) Input power specifications
(4) Power supply standardization
(5) Design reviews.
Realistic technical requirements acknowledge what can and cannot be done within both current state-of-the-art and the military standards, specifications and policies. It is essential for success that program management be knowledgeable of the interrelationships between these external constraints.
Equally important is the selection of a design and manufacturing activity capable of implementing the guidelines in this document. Fundamental criteria for power supply source selection should enable evaluation of the proposed stated, perceived and demonstrated ability to comply with these guidelines.
