As cells are removed form the
formation process, containers and covers can have on their surfaces varying
amounts of dirt, grease, damp or dry acid, and cooling water. These materials
must be cleaned from the surface before battery system assembly (if
applicable) and shipment to the customer. Cleaning solutions to remove dirt
and grease will vary depending on container/cover material. Naturally,
cleaning solutions must be chosen that will not attack the container/cover
materials. Further, cleaning solutions must be kept form flowing inside the
cell or battery.
Any dried or damp acid residue must be
neutralized on all surfaces with a mild basic solution. The neutralization
should then be rinsed off with clean water and the cells allowed to dry.
