To demonstrate how the process characterization metrics are applied in the context of a hypothetical manufacturing situation, the following discussion has been organized into two separate, related parts. Part A addresses the crucial, generic, step-by-step preliminary activities. Unless careful attention is given to the inherent features of these steps, the likelihood of a successful characterization study is greatly minimized. Part B addresses the computational aspects related to the process characterization metrics and was done concurrently with Part A. The hypothetical data used in the steps has been selected to reinforce the use of certain equations and analytical approaches.
