The application of the principles briefly discussed in the templates for design, test, and manufacturing is necessary for the successful accomplishment of the engineering tasks on schedule. Integrated with and pervading this effort are the activities presented within the templates for facilities, logistics, and management. The scope and interactions for this multidiscipline approach to risk reduction during development and production are significant. A transition plan (DoD 4245.7-M) is necessary to identify the timing and application of the different disciplines, the risk-driving interrelationships, and particularly how and when execution of the plan is to be evaluated. To be effective, the transition plan should be available at the start of engineering development and updated regularly until full production occurs.
