As described in the previous section, development of the SRE methodology is
based upon the protocol analysis model. The SEI Risk Program recognizes that
the distinct activities in protocol analysis must necessarily be performed as
part of any risk assessment, regardless of the methodology used. The SRE
methodology represents a disciplined, documented process for accomplishing
these activities in the application of the taxonomy-based questionnaire in an
evaluative environment. The implementation details are designed to produce the
most verifi- able results possible while, at the same time, making economical
use of available resources.
