Additional information may be included in TRIMS by the user. This is done in the Baselining menu on the TRIMS main screen when the database is first established or when it is tailored for specific applications.
An optional Information statement may be associated with each Template. This information clarifies the intent of the Template, shows the basis of the Template, or provides other information that will help identify the purpose of the Template and guide the user in the Template’s specific area of interest.
The Template may also have associated Impact Factors. These factors, with a value from 0 to 9, show the likely affect of the Template in each of three metrics areas—Performance, Schedule, and Cost. This factor is very important because it helps refine the risk assessment process to account for the impact in these three areas of the Template and its associated practice or process. Typically, these values are set initially when loading the database and then seldom changed.
Each Question is assigned a default Weighting Factor based on its affect on the process being reviewed. This value can be changed by the user. (In practice, the user should exercise caution when modifying these values as they are based on expert knowledge of risk issues and factors.)
The impact factors and weighting factors are an estimate made by SME personnel. If possible, it is a good idea to have one person enter initial values and others then review them and, with the originator, verify or change them.
Other Baselining information that can be entered at the time of initiating or later tailoring are dates for various steps in the program, responsible personnel, risk level ranges and similar information. These are all shown in the Baselining menu option window.
