The Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) was presented the Best Manufacturing Practices (BMP) Award for Excellence at a ceremony on July 14, 2006. The BMP Award for Excellence is intended to highlight Best Practices used in industry, government and academia; to emphasize the value of best practices for benchmarking and problem solving; and to bring visibility to those organizations such as TYAD that are willing to share the processes they do well with the U.S. industrial base.
This is the second time the Navy BMP Team has validated TYAD's processes following the facility's initial survey in 1998. A 14-member team of BMP subject matter experts spent five days reviewing, validating, and documenting 41 of the facility's processes, 60% of which were classified as Best Practices. Tobyhanna is the largest, full-service electronics maintenance facility in the Department of Defense (DoD) and DoD's recognized leader in the areas of automated test equipment, systems integration, and downsizing of electronics systems. The U.S. Army has designated Tobyhanna as its Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for communications-electronics, radar, and missile guidance and control.
Congratulations to Tobyhanna Army Depot for winning the 2006 BMP Award for Excellence and for once again sharing their best practices with the U.S. industrial base!
