The University of New Orleans (UNO) College of Engineering (COE) was presented the Best Manufacturing Practices (BMP) Award for Excellence on April 27, 2007. The BMP Award for Excellence honors those organizations that are willing to share processes they do well and are transferable to the U.S. Navy, DoD suppliers, and the U.S. industrial base. BMP Surveys validate and highlight best practices used in industry, government, and academia, emphasizing the value of best practices for benchmarking and problem solving while bringing visibility to hosting organizations such as the UNO COE.
The COE’s Gulf Coast Region Maritime Technology Center (GCRMTC) and its Simulation Based Design Center (SBDC) have demonstrated continued excellence in performance through partnerships and programs with the Navy, other federal government agencies, the state of Louisiana, the maritime industry, and other countries and universities. The COE is also engaged in the Office of Naval Research Manufacturing Technology efforts and National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) initiatives designed to reduce costs and improve the quality and productivity of ship construction.
Congratulations to the UNO COE for winning the 2007 BMP Award for Excellence and for sharing their best practices with the Navy Best Manufacturing Practices Survey Team!
