A representative from the Best Manufacturing Practices (BMP) Program and Center of Excellence (COE) was among attendees at the Defense Standardization Program Office (DSPO) and Parts Standardization and Management Committee (PSMC) Industry Day and Conference May 8–10, 2007 at the Logistics Management Institute in McLean, Virginia. Approximately 40 government and industry representatives met May 8 for Industry Day on behalf of the DSPO and PSMC to update industry representatives on the DoD Parts Management Reengineering effort and to obtain their feedback. A semiannual, open session follow-on meeting on May 9 and 10 was jointly attended by members of the PSMC and the Parts Management Reengineering Implementation Process Team (PMRIPT) to discuss parts management and standardization issues. PSMC’s mission is to foster standardization by promoting commonality of parts and processes to increase interoperability, improve logistic readiness and reduce total ownership costs, and move toward standardization of commercial and industrial parts. BMP’s participation in this event represents the Center’s support of sharing best practices and resources in support of the DoD.
